Non-Toxic Etching

Collagraph
Multi-plate dry point

Non-toxic etch is a safe way to etch using copper sulphate with aluminium rather than acid with copper or zinc. It is used for all traditional printing processes. Hard and soft ground, aquatint and sugar lift and also new techniques such as white ground burnt tape resist and direct wax crayon drawing which gives a lithographic effect.

Collagraph is a very broad process which is built around the idea of constructing a plate out of collaged elements. This technique has brought about many inventive ways of using materials. In Peter York’s current work the surface of mount card is drawn into and cut away, poly-filler and acrylic gel is added to give texture and tone.

Multi-plate dry point is a technique where acrylic sheet is used to draw into with a scribe and each plate is inked with a different colour. Because you are using transparent acrylic sheet you can over print exactly to create a multi-coloured image.
